First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Matthias, also known as Celeb on the PP-Forums. I am a 23 year old german Cryx and Skorne player. When talking about Warmachine, there are 3 play styles that are discussed the most:

Attrition: Trying to trade pieces in your favor Scenario: Winning the scenario early Assassination: Killing the opponent’s caster

In my opinion there is a fourth play style that is often overseen: Control. While all control lists have another goal in mind, like using the control for Attrition or winning the scenario, the general strategy of a control list is a bit different from lists that concentrate on the other 3 play styles.

A control list tries to control the flow of the game by shutting down the opponent’s options, denying them areas of the board etc. In this series, we will take on different aspects of control and analyze how to play them and how to beat them.
